Christmas Luncheon

Venue: Horticultural Society of Trinidad and Tobago Building, Lady Chancellor Road, Port of Spain

Luncheon tickets cost $150 each. Members interested in attending are asked to contact Anis Baig at 350-7539 or Gervais de Matas at 368-4399 for tickets to ensure we cater adequately.

This meeting will feature the photos from our photography competition and the winners will be announced.

This month's raffle will take form of a Dutch Auction of three plants.

Don't forget to bring along your flowering orchids for the Monthly Show Table especially those new members to win your plant prizes. Winning members get to feature their plants in the following newsletter.

Members' Choice
Rebecca Birbal won the Members' Choice for December with her beautifully flowered Ionopsis utriculoides. Ionopsis utriculoides is a local species, a twig epiphyte with small fan shaped leaves. A typical inflorescence ranges from 10 to 25 cm in length. It is found in the Lower northern range central and southern Trinidad on small shrubs and abandoned cocoa and citrus trees. Rebecca's plant was purchased from Kultana Orchids in October 2013 at the Annual Orchid Show. This imported version produced longer flower spikes and larger flowers than the local version. She grows the plants mounted and fertilizes it weekly.

Seedling Growing Competition
Plants were distributed for the seedling growing contest at the November Meeting. It was noted that not all the seedlings were of the same quality. To create a level playing ground and to give others a chance to participate in the competition new seedlings will be distributed at our January Meeting. Members who already purchased plants will get the new seedlings at no cost. Members who did not purchase before will be able to do so at a cost of $25.
