March 2012 Monthly Meeting.
This meeting will be held on Sunday March 25th 2012 at The Horticultural Society of Trinidad and Tobago headquarters on Lady Chancellor Road, Port of Spain, at 10.00 am.
Family Day 2012
The Society
wishes to thank Mrs. Savitri Mohammed for hosting the annual family day
on Sunday February 26th 2012 at her Balandra beach house "Sea
Grapes".
There was a large attendance of members and a great time was had by all.
South Spring Show 2011
The South
Spring Show 2011 accounts will be presented at this month's monthly meeting.
The co- Chairpersons Sharon Ramjit-Mohammed and Kerry Latchman will give
the show report.
Annual Orchid Show 2011
The accounts of the Annual Orchid Show which was held in October 2011 at NAPA will be presented at the April monthly meeting. Chairperson Joan Hampton will give the show report.
Spring Orchid Show 2012
The theme
for this year's Spring Orchid Show "ORCHIDS -: A TRIBUTE
TO MOTHERS"
The first meeting for the Spring Orchid Show took place on February 5th
2012 at the Oilfield Workers Trade Union Hall in San Fernando
The Co-Chairpersons for this show is Mr. Curtis Lutchman and Mr. Addis
Nail Baig.
The Society is looking for volunteers for the Show Committee. Members
wishing to serve on the Show Committee can contact Curtis Lutchman or
Addis Baig.
Annual Orchid Show 2012
The Society's Annual Orchid Show for 2012 carded for October 2012 will be an A.O.S. sanctioned show, further details to follow.
Monthly Show Table
This month's meeting will feature the usual show table, so do bring along your flowering orchids.
Monthly Plant Raffle
There will be a raffle of an Orchid plant. The price is two (2) chances for $5.00.
Student Judging Programme.
Applications for the Student Judging programme are still open. Closing date has been extended to March 25th 2012.
Photography Competition 2012.
A new competition
for this year 2012 will be launched; details/instructions will be forwarded
in the April Newsletter.
Cultural Tips.
We are now
into a period of the year when many of the orchids we grow come into bloom.
Now is also a time to inspect our plants for pests and diseases and take
the necessary controls to avoid damage to plants which can hinder future
growths and flowering potential. This is a time to tidy up plant containers
to reduce unsightly algae growths, fungus and to water and fertilize appropriately
to encourage the production of flowers
A reminder that the Spring Orchid Show is on May 12th and May 13th 2012
and you should be in a state of readiness to enter your flowering plants
and win some of the prizes at the show.
