September 2014 Monthly Meeting
This meeting will be held on Sunday September 21st 2014 at 10.00 am at the St. Xavier's Primary School in St. Joseph. To get there go along the Eastern Main Road to St. Joseph, turn into St Joseph Road at the traffic lights at the Eastern Credit Union La Joya Complex and take a right turn at the St.Joseph's Catholic Church, then a left turn onto a short intersection and then a right turn that leads into the premises of St. Xavier's Primary School.
Monthly Show Table
There will be the usual monthly show table so do bring along your flowering orchids to be judged.
Monthly Plant Raffle
There will be a raffle of an orchid plant. The price is two (2) chances for $5.00
Cultural Topic
Topic for September monthly meeting will be a short talk on the lethal disease caused by Phytophtora fungus particularly in Cattleyas by Alexander Gibson.
Annual Orchid Show 2014
The venue
for this year's Annual Orchid Show which will be held on Saturday October
25th and Sunday October 26th 2014, is the Ambassador Hotel, 99A Long Circular
Road, St. James.
The Show will be officially opened on Saturday 25th October 2014 at 9.00am
by His Excellency Anthony T.A. Carmona.
This year the Show is sanctioned by the American Orchid Society and there
will be AOS judges to judge the exhibits.
The Show Chairperson is Mr.Curtis Lutchman and the Co-Chairperson is Mr.
Christopher Watson.
All members are encouraged to support the Show by displaying and exhibiting
their plants and blooms.
Registration Annual Orchid Show 2014.
Registration
of plants will take place on Thursday October 23rd 2014 from 9.00 am to
6.00 pm. Members are advised to bring their plants as early as possible.
Members entering plants for the Show must ensure that their plants are
properly labeled and the writing must be in Block Letters.
Any plant without a label will not be entered for judging but can be entered
for display only.
Please note you are also required to prepare a legible list of the plants
you are entering, to include the plant name and where practical, the parentage.
This list should be grouped according to genus e.g.Cattleya, Dendrobium,
Vanda, etc.
Judging
The American Orchid Society judges along with the Trinidad & Tobago Orchid Society judges will commence judging on Friday 24th October 2014 at 8.30 am. During the judging only the relevant personnel will be allowed in the hall, which includes AOS judges, TTOS judges, student judges and clerks.There are also prizes for flower arrangements in the following categories:
(1) Orchid Arrangements
(2) Orchid & local grown cut flowers
(3) Orchid & imported cut flowers.
(4) Corsages.
Show Entry and Tickets
Members are
requested to take advance show entry tickets to sell which are priced
at $25.00 while entry at the door is $30.00. Tickets will be available
at this month's monthly meeting.
Only financial members who display their badges for the year 2014/2015
will be admitted free of charge to the Show.

There will
be vendors selling orchid plants at the Show
A reminder that no locally collected species are to be offered at any
TTOS show for sale.
Assistance at the upcoming Show
The Show Committee is appealing to members to come forward to give their support and assistance at this show. Beside assistance at the door on both days of the Show, there are a number of areas that assistance is required. Members can write their names and contact number on a slip of paper and hand it to Joan Hampton or Diane Huggins at this month's meeting

The Management Committee has put in place guide lines for members wishing to host monthly meetings at their home. Any member wishing to do so should contact the Management Committee for further information.

The Confirmed date for the Society's Christmas lunch is November 30th 2014 and the venue is "San Antonio Conservatory" in Santa Cruz. Cost of tickets will be advised
